Delft Travel Guide: Best day trip from Amsterdam
The Netherlands is one of my favorite countries in the world. I have been to the Netherlands almost ten times for so many great reasons. From the gorgeous little houses, the canals, the windmills, the tulips, the bike culture and just the overall beauty of the country, I love everything.
I have spent a lot of time in Amsterdam throughout the years, so last month on my last solo trip to the Netherlands, I decided to explore South Holland and I found a dreamy fairytale town.
I have no doubt this is the best day trip from Amsterdam. If you love the “Amsterdam vibes” but don’t enjoy the crowds – Amsterdam is VERY busy friends – then you should take a day trip to Delft.
Delft is absolutely stunning and it’s very calm. It felt so good to just take a break from the crazy touristy spots and get lost in the streets of Delft. I think I took at least 500 pictures while I was there.
These are my top 5 tips for your next day trip from Amsterdam to Delft:

#1. Get there by train from Amsterdam
I recommend taking the train from Amsterdam Central Station to Delft. The tickets are affordable – around $20USD when I went in May 2025. They have direct trains and they run frequently throughout the day. It takes about 45 minutes to get there by direct train.

#2. Grab a bite at Stads-Koffyhuis
This cute Dutch restaurant offers outdoor seating on a boat patio with the perfect view of Oude Kerk (the old church). Their Dutch pancakes and cappuccinos are so good.

#3. Visit the main Historic Attractions
Some of Delft’s main historic attractions are the Oude Kerk (the old church), Nieuwe Kerk (the new church) and Markt.

#4. Walk along the canals
Delft’s canals are beautiful, walk around and get lost in this dreamy town – this was my favorite thing to do.

#5. Visit Molen De Roos
I think this charming windmill from the 17th century is the perfect place to get great pictures and just admire history.

Don’ forget about Delft on your next trip to Amsterdam or the Netherlands.
My goal is to inspire people to step out of their comfort zones and explore the world. Get out there!
Happy traveling!
